Bohannon Safety Threat Response

December 1, 2019

Dear Bohannon Families,

Our top concern is for the safety of our students, staff, and families. We must take any threat to the safety of our community extremely seriously and respond with appropriate action.

Over the Thanksgiving Break, a Bohannon student communicated to other Bohannon students via social media that he would shoot up the school. Fortunately, these students reported this to their parents who then reported it to Bohannon administration. In collaboration with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department, a thorough investigation was conducted. The Sheriff’s Department determined that this was not a credible threat because there was neither intent nor a means to carry out any such violent act.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to discuss with your child the following:

  • Making jokes about violent acts, such as school shootings, is never appropriate, and will be taken seriously.
  • It is extremely important to report any such statements made by others so that a proper investigation can take place and safety can be ensured for all.

We hope you enjoy this last day of Thanksgiving Break and we are looking forward to seeing all of our Bulldogs tomorrow!

Respectfully,

Zachary Kahn,

Principal

Bohannon Middle School
