Ms. Christine will check in with any student who's choices are not in line with the Art Room Best Practices and BARK.

If a student continues to require check-ins, the student will be assigned detention where they will write a reflection about their choices. The reflection will go home to the family for signature, then be returned to Ms. Christine. Upon receipt of the signed reflection, Ms. Christine will email a photo of the paper to the student and family. This will ensure we are all on the same page.

If, after detention is served, a student continues to make choices that are outside of the Art Room Best Practices Ms. Christine will take action with Administration to include discipline referrals, etc.

Course Content

California Visual Art StandardsLinks to an external site. are the guiding objectives for art room content. Bohannon's art class is visual art focused but we will integrate a bit of performing and media arts, as well. The state categorizes the visual art standards into four major headings:

CREATING      PRESENTING      RESPONDING       CONNECTING

Students will achieve the standards through the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. The Elements and Principles provide a foundation for critical thinking, creative problem solving, self expression, and organization, all through use of artistic and visual communication skills.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

San Lorenzo Unified School District employs Restorative Practices as a means to support students. The Art Room will engage in Circles and other Social Emotional Learning (SEL) throughout the school year to build community, reinforce Art Room Best Practices, and foster a growth mindset. SEL activities will focus on life skills and reflection. Students will not only reflect on their work in the art room, they will also take time to complete personal reflections with journal prompts. Journal writing will not be read by the teacher unless she is asked to do so.
